Remember how auctioneers quickly adopted to the internet. Their audience expanded from local to national. Were they happy! Of course, they had to ship customer's purchases, however it was a fair trade for the higher prices realized.
Now everyone complains about the "cost of shipping". What happened?
A number of vendors successfully sold the idea that shipping could (or should) be a profit center. They showed auctioneers how they could profit on the actual shipping cost (while still offering their customers a discount from 'retail' rates), charge for materials, and charge for handling aka labor and / or time. It isn't working for a lot of buyers. (And, we'd add, for consignors who realize lower prices when buyers reduce their top bid to compensate for the higher cost.)
